Truth Diet: a mock podcast

A mock podcast writing sample used for an assignment in my Introduction to Marketing class.

Project

Using the given show strategy template, create a mock podcast idea for a company that would benefit from having a platform where consumers can engage in content relevant to their personal interests as a customer of the brand.

My process

I decided to choose Hello Fresh as my brand because its target market consists of social media savvy consumers who may already enjoy listening to podcasts. I saw an opportunity for Hello Fresh to start a lifestyle podcast that discusses eating healthy while marketing their product.

Show Premise

This is a show about real, sustainable, healthy eating. Unlike other shows that will tell you to diet and make sacrifices, we’re here to encourage you to indulge and explore. We’ll bring in real people with real experiences to talk about what actually works and doesn’t work. Together, we’ll change the narrative of healthy eating and bring a new era of dieting, where people love their food and love themselves. We’re not here to tell you to stop and starve, we’re here to tell you to keep going.

One Simple Story

STATUS QUO: You want to live a healthy lifestyle with clean eating and results.

CONFLICT: But every time you try to start a new diet and lose weight, it doesn’t last, you don’t see the desired results, and it brings you to an unhealthy mental and physical space.

RESOLUTION: Build a better, long-term relationship with healthy eating. Rather than starving your body, you learn to fuel it. You change your perspective on what equals a healthy lifestyle. Rather than seeking visual results of a smaller figure, you learn what benefits healthy eating brings to you.

Frustration Statement

For years women have been told to diet in order to lose weight, be healthy, and build a more attractive physique. New diets pop up constantly, claiming to be the most effective way to look better fast. Most of these diets will say cut these food groups, only eat this kind of whole foods, starve, suppress, restrain. These short-term diets so often lead to relapse and binge eating, further damaging a woman’s relationship with food. We are here to change the narrative. Rather than offering short-term solutions, we want to build long-term relationships with healthy eating and healthy living. Food is to fuel the body. Food is to nourish the body. Food is to heal the body. To fuel, to nourish, to heal is to love.

Empathy Statement

You want to live a healthy lifestyle. You want to eat clean and cook for yourself more, enjoying tasty meals without the guilt. Through health eating you hope to see results in your physical body and appearance.

But all of the different diets you researched and other women swear by as the tried and true never seem to work. Most of the diets are unbearable, telling you to starve or causing you to dread the next meal. Sometimes the diet can backfire, causing relapse into old habits and binging. Failing diet after diet worsens both your physical and mental state.

Your relationship with food is rocky. On one hand you love it, it comforts you, it makes you happy to eat. On the other hand, it brings you shame, you feel guilty after indulging in your favorite foods, what made you happy at first then brings you down.

As much as you want to be a healthy eater, the idea of eating a salad for every meal is torturous. No way could you give up pasta and bread and chocolate. You think, maybe you can still eat what you love but you just have to hold back on how much you eat. But portion control is hard, and you always buy too little or too much at the grocery store. It all feels too confusing, too many rules, too complicated.

What can you do? What’s actually going to work? How are regular people able to maintain healthy eating and still enjoy it? We are Hello Fresh, and we want to reimagine the idea of healthy eating. Food doesn’t have to be bland and boring to be healthy. Cooking doesn’t have to be complex and time consuming. Healthy eating can be delicious, fun, and fulfilling for everyone. Every day can feel like a cheat day.

Join us on a weekly podcast journey to find and learn from people just like you who’ve successfully made the transition to a healthy diet. We’re going to reveal the truth about dieting and healthy living. Real people. Real lives. Real foods. Real results.

We’re here to keep things simple. To help you understand how you can maintain a healthy diet. We’ll give you only what you need, delivered to you wherever you get your podcasts.

You are not alone on your journey to healthy eating. We’re here to make food your best friend and biggest supporter. No cheating. Only the truth. This is Truth Diet.
